One of the biggest things that I pay attention to when it comes to documenting a wedding or special event: the people you are close to. Kristen shared this gorgeous moment on her wedding day with her grandma. I happened to be there with my 35mm film analog camera & it became a favourite moment from the day for many reasons, even more so as it was shot on 35mm film!

Heading into wedding season, I keep moments like this at the forefront of my mind. It’s all great to get the hero shots we share and talk about the most on our instagrams… but truthfully, moments with your closest people are what matters most. You cherish these for a lifetime & they become your family heirlooms, sometimes more so than the hero shots themselves!

Kristen & Tyson got married in April 2024 in Phillip Island Victoria. I was lucky enough to meet Kristen through my local mothers group, we had our little ones at the same time and I am so glad we crossed paths. They asked me to capture their special day in Video, and I was free, so I said yes. It’s always a delight capturing friends weddings, and it’s a massive honour for me when I am asked.

Sadly, during their honeymoon a few weeks after their wedding day, Kristen lost her grandma and she messaged me with the news. I felt so humbled and reminded of the same position I was in after my own wedding in 2019. I lost my grandma in 2020, and the moments I had with her on my wedding day mean so much more than I ever imagined. Putting myself in Kristens shoes, I instantly reminded myself how important being a wedding photographer is, it’s an opportunity to capture someones history, to tell the story of their love, but also their family, all the moments that unfold that mean so much to the couple.

You can listen to my Youtube video explaining the photo and the moment itself below. Let me know what you think about my perspective, do you agree? What do you find the most important and special keepsake about your wedding photos?
