Melbourne Garden Wedding with 35mm film

I love working with Jessie of Ruby & James. After a week of wild weather, the rain, wind and clouds cleared for Thao & Carls big day. They had been planning it for over a year, so we were ecstatic to see the sun shining, as it meant their ceremony would take place outdoors in the gardens.

Ruby & James was the creative force behind the Planning, Styling & Creative Direction on the day with my team Blossom Daisy Creative behind the Photography.

There’s something magical about Melbourne in early spring. The city and surrounds are just waking up after winter — the air feels softer, the light lingers a little longer, and everything begins to bloom again. It’s the perfect backdrop for a wedding that feels fresh, alive, and full of possibility.

One of the most beautiful parts of an early spring wedding is the gardens. From the Royal Botanic Gardens to the vineyards of the Mornington Peninsula, everything is lush and green, with pops of colour starting to emerge. You’ll find magnolias opening, wisteria trailing, and the first blush of roses on their way. For photos, it’s a dream — natural beauty at its peak, without the harshness of summer light.

The weather in early spring also has its charm. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, and that golden hour glow that seems to last forever. While Melbourne is famously unpredictable, spring offers a balance — not too hot, not too cold, just enough to keep things interesting (and your guests comfortable).

Then there’s the energy. After months of grey skies and short days, spring weddings feel like a celebration of more than just two people. It’s a celebration of season, of renewal, of everything beginning again. Your day becomes part of that rhythm — laughter carrying across the gardens, champagne flowing as the sun dips, dance floors that spark to life under a crisp night sky.

Getting married in Melbourne in early spring is about more than timing. It’s about capturing a season of change and weaving it into your story. Fresh, hopeful, and endlessly beautiful — it’s the perfect stage for the start of something new.
