35mm film is a beautiful addition to your wedding gallery, it’s a service I offer in our Wedding Photography Packages. Couples love the idea of film at the moment, it adds a nostalgic touch to their album and with less chance of needing to retouch colouring, tones and cropping… it’s becoming popular in 2024 and beyond, so how do we replicate the feel of film in digital photography and ensure your whole gallery has the same touch?

‘I love you, and that’s the beginning and end of everything.’
– R. Scott Fitzgerald
Let me share a story about a couple who got married in 2019. Tricia and Hieu wanted something laidback, and although I shot their wedding in digital format, you will see that we created so many lovely moments because 1) they were relaxed on the day & 2) they trusted me 100%. Funny enough, the secret to getting incredible moments on your wedding day is just that: trusting your creative team and being presently in the moment, letting go of any stress that you may be feeling.
If you are in the moment, and not thinking about what’s ahead of the day or the timeline, you will get incredible moments that you will cherish forever. Wedding Photography is a collaboration, and the couple spend the most time with their Photographer & Videographer. We often spend 8+ hours with our couples, so we genuinely get to know you and we want you to experience the best day, with the added result of capturing and creating the best moments for you to have forever.
I arrived at 8.30am to Tricia & Hieu’s Hotel room, where they got ready together and didn’t want to stage a ‘first look’ moment. Instead Hieu got Tricia’s intricate top, pants & skirt details on for her, and Hieu got himself ready while Tricia’s makeup was being finalised. They were planning an overseas wedding & celebration in Malaysia, and I was lucky enough to capture the magic unfold in Melbourne with all their closest family & friends.
After they got ready, we started to walk towards the registry office, where we captured some ‘in the moment’ snaps. After their intimate ceremony with only family present, we walked across the road to have ice cream at The Grocer on Spring Street. The day was moody, it just finished raining, the light was whimsical, soft and diffused. This was a perfect storm of elements for stylish photographs. We walked across the road to the Fitzroy Gardens where we finished their portraits on the steps of the greenhouse. Tricia’s pants and top combo looked a dress from behind as she has a custom made waist-coat with a train that softly flowed behind her. So many brides to be have told me that they have taken inspiration form this couples’ day, and I know you will too!
It was featured in three bridal magazines/blogs, including Together Journal, Carat’s & Cake and Anti Bride. Tricia & Hieu were ahead of the trends at the time, with a live sketch artist, incredible styling, florals and attire. Scroll below for the gallery, I hope you like it. Cass x
